A Ground to keep for the Groundskeeper (GLOG)

SunderedworldDM made something that got me to leave the warm embraces of my bed to write this fucking thing.

The absolute fool, SunderedworldDM, is at it again. Dude has way more time than any of us, or half as aching fingers with twice the work. I hate him, but love him all the same. (Please check out his BLOG, the Dungeons alone are worth a visit, but the rest of his mad scribbles will no doubt give you at least one idea that will never leave.)

He has this delightfully inspirational class for the GLOG, a little concoction that I find has endless uses, but in my mind suffers from generalization and leaving shit up to a clueless player and DM to figure out.

I thought one refinement that would complete this perfect nugget of player-character dungeon-mastering could be dungeon templates of sort. Thus, here we are. I’m gonna bang one out, and we’ll see how that feels.

The idea is this, what is the dungeon? What specific BOONS does it actually grant? Who are the “familiar faces” we are so lucky to look after?

Lavender Hive

Your dungeon is the hive of uncomfortably large and loud bees, with their normal happy yellow instead replaced by a rich lavender, as the pollen gathered comes from various plum plants, vineyards and lavender fields.

BOONS

Dark Ambitions: The hive is relatively small but can be harvested for profit. For every room you trim, you earn enough money to increase your lifestyle for a year or make a single large purchase. Trimmed rooms are re-built within 1d6 + 1 months. Trim too many rooms however, and your purple friends won’t be too happy with you…

Queenly Favor: Insects the world over recognize the queen of your bees as a rightful ruler. You may induce fear in bees enemies, awe in their lessers, and service from their allies.

Polyginal Precision: All these rooms look the same to binocular vision. All trespassers must roll or become lost when in a room, as if it had spun around and they weren’t aware of which door was which.

FAMILIAR FACES

Possible cretins that call this dungeon home.

Queen Bee: There is a Queen Bee, or a false queen, or a goddess transformed, or a dead queen held aloft by puppetry. None the less, she rules. She should be less effective physically than her workers and drones, but more charismatic, and wise. In a fight she summons those to her aid, and in escape she may use all below her as shield.

The Drones: The constant buzzing whine of a hive is the work of these socialite showoffs and their lavish lifestyles. They can blind with gobs of acidic vomited honey, but have no stingers. They scream and wail and whine to get out of fights.

Workers: The capable constructors and defenders of the hive, the workers are constant in scouting out sources of pollen, constructing ever-winding and geometrically perfect wax structures, and have a last resort for fighting. Workers can blind with pollen in a fight, or stab with their stingers, which makes them save vs death, but almost always poisons the enemy stung.

The Symbiote: A creature that dropped in unexpectedly, and made friends with the queen. Maybe you put them there, or maybe they wandered in looking for help. They help the bees by defending, cleaning, translating, or babysitting, and the bees in turn allow them a place to stay and a low title in the hive.

Living Honey: Something in the plants made the sugary sweet miracle ingredient come alive, and the Bees don’t seem so bothered by it, as it’s been defending the place fine and blends in.

Wax Construction: One of the bees was taken with a fell mood and created a piece of pure torturous art out of the wax. All that beehold it are terrified, pummeled, or hypnotized, in that order. It could be a construct, psycic trap, or winding architecture.
